Direct your children onto the right path,
and when they are older, they will not leave it. (Proverbs 22:6)

Our Lady of Guadalupe Family Ministry offers Faith Formation for families with children grades Pre-K to 8th (ages 4 to 13 – however families with children younger than ages 4 are welcome to join).

This ministry now offers faith formation to assist families with children who are (1) currently or looking to begin Sacrament preparation (Reconciliation and Eucharist) and/or (2) interested in expanding their current faith discussion beyond simply attending mass each week (faith communities are both offered English and in Spanish).

Each faith group is designed specifically to assist the family in growing in faith by learning about the sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist, sharing the faith by exploring the Gospels at an age-appropriate level, and continuing faith development by serving our community and putting faith into action.  Please consider joining our Family Faith Formation with the ministry that fits your family’s needs.

ADAPTIVE LEANERS

Additionally, we offer faith formation for families with adaptive learners (special needs) for ages 6 to 18. If your family is interested in our adaptive learner programs for Sacrament preparation (Reconciliation, Eucharist, and/or Confirmation) or continuing faith formation, please contact Ms. Theresa Avila at 310-372-7077 extension 224 (or email at [email protected]) for more information.

What does FFF offer my family seeking preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist?

The following guidelines are for families who have children already participating in the sacrament preparation for Reconciliation and Eucharist:

-Regular Sunday Mass attendance is a basic requirement for families seeking sacrament preparation – families will be asked to check-in with faith leader before or after mass.

-Sacrament Preparation is a minimum 2-year process (and can be longer depending on if families join later in the year and/or the readiness of the family).

-Children receive the sacraments typically in December for Reconciliation and May for Eucharist

-During the first year (grades 1st-7th), the family will focus on exploring the Gospel readings, supporting families to develop faith practices and prayers at home, and attending mass each weekend.

-During the second year (grades 2nd-8th), the family will focus on understanding the sacraments or Reconciliation and Eucharist, while continuing to develop family prayer, and attending mass each weekend.

Additionally – families with children in Pre-K to Kinder can join in faith formation as pre-sacrament formation. During the pre-sacrament formation years, families receive materials to help children learn prayers with picture books and songs.
