Let’s pray for the Holy Father today and thank God for his love and service to our beloved Church. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
Memorial Mass for Pope Francis
In anticipation of the funeral of the Holy Father Pope Francis in Rome, Archbishop José Gomez will celebrate a memorial Mass in thanksgiving for the life and ministry of Pope Francis on Friday, April 25 at 12:10 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
All are invited to join Archbishop Gomez, our Auxiliary Bishops and clergy to pray for the soul our Holy Father and bid him a final farewell from our local church in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
The Mass will also be livestreamed on @LACatholics and OLACathedral Facebook channels.
The Archdiocese has created a special webpage dedicated to the Holy Father which includes the Archbishop’s statement, homily, and other writings on Pope Francis, as well as videos, images and other resources: www.LACatholics.org/pope-francis .
The page will be updated in the coming days with information on Masses and other events during the Novendiales, the nine-day period of mourning for a deceased Pope. During this time, the funeral rites are celebrated daily in Rome by the Cardinals and Masses are offered for the repose of his soul throughout the world.
Statement on the Death of the Holy Father Pope Francis
“I join the family of God here in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and Catholics all over the world, in grieving the loss of our Holy Father. In this beautiful Easter season, when we celebrate our hope in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we pray that the angels may lead Pope Francis into paradise, that the saints and martyrs welcome him, and that God in his mercy will make his face shine upon his faithful servant and grant him eternal rest in the love that never ends.” -Most Reverend José H. Gomez
