The Holy See has granted a special request from the Franciscan Family in celebration of their octocentenary (800 Anniversary) that all the churches entrusted to Franciscans may receive a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions from December. 8, 2023 to February 2, 2024.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Hermosa Beach is under the pastoral care of Franciscans; therefore, we invite all Catholics to share this “privilege.”
All one must do to qualify for a plenary indulgence is visit Our Lady of Guadalupe Hermosa Beach or any Franciscan Church and pray before the Nativity scene. In addition, it is appropriate, but not necessary, that the sacramental Confession and especially Holy Communion and the prayer for the Pope’s intention take place on the same day that the indulgenced work is performed; but it is sufficient that these sacred rites and prayers be carried out within several days (about 20 days) before or after the indulgenced act. This places us in the appropriate spiritual state for receiving graces that the Church grants us in an indulgence.
We have two locations set up to OLG for you to pray:
1. OUTSIDE BY THE MARY STATUE
2. INSIDE THE CHURCH
What is an indulgence?
The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines an indulgence as “a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven” (CCC 1471). Indulgences can be obtained by faithful Catholics who carry out certain pious or charitable acts specified by the Holy Father. Read more about an indulgence
