Bible Study Workshop – Sign Up

Emmaus Bible Study is a weekly bible study group where we prayerfully read and study the scriptures with fellow members of our faith community.  We strive to keep spirituality and scholarship together in our approach to the scriptures.

WHEN DOES THE BIBLE STUDY MEET?

The group meets on Fridays in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) from 6:30-8:30 PM.

HOW DOES THE GROUP APPROACH THE BIBLE?

We use the bible study guidelines given us in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and in the scripture study documents that resulted from The Second Vatican Council.

We do not follow the lectionary. Nor do we follow the Church Calendar. We love both, but our focus is to study the scriptures one book at a time. We go back and forth between Old and New Testament books.

WHO IS THIS BIBLE STUDY FOR?

All are welcome. All that is necessary is an open heart, a bible, a notebook, and a pen!

Parishioners who have previously taken Juan’s Bible Masterclass are especially encouraged to sign up as they have already received extensive instruction on how to read and study scripture. But the group is also open to those who have not yet taken the masterclass, which will continue to be offered in a modified and updated form from time to time, as Juan’s schedule permits this.

WHAT DOES THE MEETING LOOK LIKE?

  1. Welcome, Announcements, and Introductory Remarks
  2. Opening Prayer
  3. Interactive Bible Study Activities
  4. Lord’s Prayer & Dismissal

WHAT MATERIALS ARE REQUIRED?

The following are the main resources we use in class. You are strongly encouraged to get them, but you are not required to buy them as we freely print and distribute handouts for each book of the bible we study together:

The Revised New Jerusalem Bible

New Collegeville Bible Commentary

The Ignatius Study Bible
