World Mission Sunday

OCTOBER 23 IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

We join Catholics worldwide in this annual Eucharistic celebration for the Missions of the Church.

On this year’s theme: “You shall be My witnesses” (Acts 1:8), Pope Francis emphasizes the call to every Christian to bear witness to Christ, to participate in a mission of universal evangelization, and to seek strength and guidance from the Holy Spirit.

The Second collection at all Masses this weekend is for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith – to help support the work and witness of the Mission Church, as it provides for priests, religious and lay leaders who offer the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions. Thank you for your generosity.

In support of World Mission Sunday you are also welcome to donate online https://missionsla.org

In 1926 Pope Pius XI instituted Mission Sunday for the whole Church with the first worldwide Mission Sunday collection taking place in October 1927. World Mission Sunday is a day celebrated in all the local Churches as the feast of catholicity and universal solidarity so Christians worldwide will recognize their common responsibility with regard to the evangelization of the world.
